PEEPS SHOW SUSPECTS
NamePhotoMotive? Opportunity? Means?
Erin I walked into Erin's room the other day and saw a box of peeps on her desk... when I pointed them out, she exclaimed, "Damn! You weren't supposed to notice those! I was going to mail them to you." A-ha! On the other hand, I met her when I moved to New York, I didn't know her when I received the first two Peeps packages. So if she sent them, well, that's really scary.
Will I didn't originally suspect Will, but Bronwen called my attention to a statement he made the other day: "what's up peeps?" Will is insanely smart, so it's possible that this whole Peeps thing is a small part of some larger world domination scheme. He lives in New York... but he could probably work out a way to get a TN postmark on the thing. He bears watching.
Ali Ali is an artist, so that's motive enough. She has the attention to detail necessary to create Peeps bikinis, and she definitely has the opportunity and means. A 'Peeps Show' doesn't seem quite her style though. It's hard to think of why she would use the Vanderbilt Post Office, except possibly to throw me off the scent. And, it should be noted, she vigorously denies any knowledge of the Origin of the Peeps. And as Nick pointed out, her web site contains the words 'bok bok', just like the second Peeps letter. She remains Suspect Number One. Update: I was over at her house the other day and she had Peeps! Admittedly it was Easter.
Brandon Brandon, as a Vanderbilt employee, would definitely have had the opportunity to mail something from their post office. His office-type job would make various mailing labels available. As for motive, he would probably enjoy seeing me confused. Brandon points out that he is way too lazy to put together something like this; if he were going to send me Peeps, they'd arrive direct from Amazon. He has a point.
Heather Heather seems to always be doing some sort of craft project, so it's possible that this is her handiwork. As a Vanderbilt law student, the post office wouldn't be out of her way. Could be?
Michael Could Mike have done this? I'm not sure. It doesn't seem like his style, but he's surprised me before. Mike writes: "Well, my mom sends me these every year for Easter, but I don't remember sending any to you. And really I can't imagine why I would send any to you anyway because I want them all for myself."
Nickie Nickie has the sort of imagination to do something like this (and possibly the weird sense of humor), but she's way too busy to invest the time on a project like this. Or is she?
Timothy Tim is creative enough to think of something like this and has the sensibility to do the individual bikinis. But he lives far away, does he know anyone else in town who would re-mail it for him?
Robin Though she denies any involvement, Robin admits, "I have actually sent peeps through the mail before," and "it is definitely my style." I don't know how she would have mailed them from Nashville when she lives in Virginia, but I'll find out.
???   Could it have been someone else? Someone I don't suspect? Someone I don't even know?
